I've passed by this garden
frequently, as Charlie and I wander in the neighborhood. I always thought it to be a messy garden but
in my view a good sort of messy, with lots going on. Charlie and I met the gardener this
morning. I didn't get her name so don't
know if she might be Mary, Mary quite contrary, but we talked long enough for me to learn that she is a bit of a contrarian at
least about keeping a garden. She didn't
take offense when I told her about liking her garden, for its messiness, after a moment thought, she responded that she likes to think it is
natural.

More questions for Contrary Mary and her Garden
More garden questions for Contrary Mary
Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle shells,
And pretty maids all in a row
Mary, Mary, most contrary
How will your garden grow?
With empty pots,
Composted soil wrapped in plastic
A tomato, alyssum, purple petunias and a yellow flower
Everything you may need.
It’s all there, ready on the doorstep.
What more could you wish
To make your garden flourish.

How Does Your Garden Grow?
Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells, and cockle
shells,
And pretty maids all in a row
Mary, Mary most contrary
What new in your garden grows
For nurturing inquiring souls
Maybe a surgical mask or two or
three
Free for plucking from the tree?
